‘Hallow’s Gala’ art exhibition opens; Art Alliance to participate in ‘Ghouls Night Out’

It’s nearly Halloween.

The Whitewater Arts Alliance, in keeping with the spirit of the spooky holiday, has opened its annual “Hallow’s Gala” art exhibition, with Halloween and mythically based works on display through Sunday, Oct. 29, during the gallery’s regular hours, Thursdays through Sundays, from noon to 4 p.m.

The exhibition is found in the gallery at the Whitewater Cultural Arts Center, 402 West Main St., Whitewater.

According to information released by the alliance, it also will be participating in Ghouls Night Out, planned for Thursday, Oct. 26. Visitors to the gallery will find candy for trick-or-treaters, and the Cultural Arts Center will be included within the event as among places to explore for those participating in a scavenger hunt.

During the Ghouls Night Out event, the Cultural Arts Center will offer hours differing from its regular schedule, opening between 3 and 7 p.m., according to the release.

Ghouls Night Out, which is sponsored by the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held in Whitewater’s downtown between 4 and 7 p.m., the release stated.

According to information provided by the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce through its website, Ghouls Night Out offers an opportunity for trick-or-treating, with treats provided by businesses located along Whitewater’s Main Street, along with a scavenger hunt and costume contest.

Additionally, visitors to the Whitewater Arts Alliance Cultural Arts Center gallery will find a “Creepy Sounds Corner.” The activity is designed to give children an opportunity to explore musical instruments and the various sounds they make, the release noted.

Children also will find pages with spooky themes to color. Children are invited to create their spooky pages and take their works home.

Further, the release noted, a Hallow’s Gala closing reception will be held at the Cultural Arts Center, Sunday, Oct. 29, between 6 and 9 p.m.

Attendees will be treated to musical entertainment provided by “Los Bromanceros.” The two-man band is composed of area musicians Brain Lucas Looper and Kenny Jones, both of whom also are members of a band called “Brothers Quinn,” which, the release noted, has been showcased during the alliance’s Savory Sounds summer concert series.

Reception attendees additionally will find a Halloween costume contest, candy, treats, and will be on hand when the Best of Show and Viewer’s Choice awards are announced regarding works entered into the Hallow’s Gala art show.

A cost at the door to participate in the reception is $5 for adults, with children, 8 or younger, admitted free of charge.

Proceeds from the event will be used to pay for the band and other costs associated with holding the event, event co-chair Ashley McDarison said. McDarison shares the co-chair role with Whitewater Arts Alliance Board Member Christine Hayes.

Artists with work on display during the Hallows Gala show include:

• Bridget Coulter, Whitewater, showing pieces made using mixed media.
