This installment of “On Location” features a short interview with Kim Adams who serves as the recently installed Whitewater Arts Alliance gallery director. Adams talks about her interest in art, her plans for the gallery, changes already in place, membership, and an exhibit installed this month featuring the work of Fort Atkinson-based artist Amy Weh.

The exhibit is titled: “A mosaic Journey Through Texture and Color,” and features more than 60 pieces created by Weh, whose work will remain on display through Saturday, Feb. 24.

Visitors are invited to view the work during the gallery’s regular hours of operation: Thursdays through Sundays, noon to 4 p.m.

This Saturday, the gallery will be hosting a reception during which visitors will be able to meet the artist. The reception will be held between 1 and 3 p.m. An “Artist Talk” is scheduled to take place at 2:30 p.m., according to a recent press release from the alliance. 

Weh also will be presenting a “hands-on” workshop at the gallery on Saturday, Feb. 17, between 1 and 3 p.m.

The Whitewater Arts Alliance Cultural Arts Center gallery is located at 402 W. Main St., Whitewater.

Adams, having served in the role of gallery director for approximately six weeks, has instituted several changes, making the space within the gallery open and inviting.

In a recent news release, Adams was described as a lifelong learner and advocate for the arts.

She spoke during our recent interview about developing art projects as a child alongside of her father, whom, she said, was an artist and an architect.

Prior to accepting the position of director at the gallery, Adams worked for 35 years in higher education, with 32 of those years spent at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where she served as the assistant director of the James R. Conner University Center. She retired from the position in 2021. While at the university, Adams was instrumental in developing the Center Art Gallery and Roberta’s Art Gallery.
