Editor’s note: A Flag Day poem by Ron “RadioRon” Stelse is offered in observance of the anniversary of the adoption of our American flag which occurred in 1777.

Flag of Freedom

A seed fell

And turned into thought

No one understood

What they had caught.

Was it a divider

Making us hate the other

Or was it a uniter

Teaching us to love one another?

The seed kept growing

Until becoming a flower

Finally we saw this as freedom

A far cry from ruthless power.

People far greater than me say

Is freedom right or wrong

My reply to that question is

We’ll know the answer when it’s gone.
