Whitewater’s economic development director resigns

By Kim McDarison

Whitewater Economic Development Director Calli Berg resigned Thursday, according to information shared by city officials with members of the Community Development Authority (CDA) board.

In a memo to board members, the city’s Human Resources Manager Sara Marquardt wrote that “it is with sincere regret” that the city had received the resignation, which was further described as “effective today (Thursday).”

Additionally, Marquardt wrote, “We extend our heartfelt wishes to Calli for success and fulfillment in her future pursuits.”

In a followup interview by phone, City Manager John Weidl said that the city has entered into a “resignation agreement” with Berg, which includes a “nondisclosure component.”

“It’s a personnel matter; we don’t have a letter (of resignation),” Weidl said, adding that would one become available, he would share it with the public.

Weidl said a special meeting of the CDA to “discuss and accept” the resignation has been scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 31.

An agenda for the special meeting will soon be posted, he said.

Berg was hired as the city’s economic development director approximately two months ago.
