The Whitewater Arts Alliance, in partnership with the Whitewater High School Class of 1961, is honoring the late Marilyn Fuerstenberg with a legacy campaign, according to information recently released by the alliance.
Proceeds from the campaign will be used to support the Paint Wisconsin exhibition, children’s art programs, and other Whitewater Arts Alliance programming, the release stated.
As noted in the release, Fuerstenberg was a resident of Whitewater and a founding member of the alliance, as well as an avid supporter.
Fuerstenberg died in June. She was 81.
Her watercolor art career spanned more than 35 years, with her works displayed locally and internationally, the release stated, adding that the artist began as an oil painter before transitioning to watercolors in 1988.
“In her artist statement, she expressed the joy of working with watercolors, describing how transparent watercolor allowed her to capture both vibrant and subtle colors through multiple washes. Her goal was to recreate reality, life, and emotion as she envisioned or experienced them,” the release read.
A self-taught artist, Fuerstenberg’s works were included in such exhibitions as the Georgia Watercolor Society Juried Show, and placed on display in such venues as Old World Wisconsin, as well as the Whitewater Cultural Arts Center.
According to the release, “She won numerous awards, including Artist of the Month in American Artist Magazine and multiple awards from the Wisconsin Regional Artist Program (WRAP).”
Additionally, the release stated, Fuerstenberg shared her passion through workshops and art programs, encouraging others to explore the watercolor medium.
For 25 years, the release continued, she worked as a child protection social worker in Walworth County, helping countless children and maintaining connections with many of them throughout their lives.
