Sporting his “It takes a lot of balls to golf the way I do” t-shirt, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Lambda Chi Alpha Chapter President Cole Mcilroy said students on Saturday were eager to enjoy the nice weather in anticipation of the end of the spring semester, scheduled for Friday, May 10. Commencement follows on Saturday, May 11.
Mcilroy, a junior who is studying finance at UW-Whitewater, said the fraternity has 52 members.
On Saturday, members of Lambda Chi Alpha were among several student groups which could be found near campus enjoying the sunny early afternoon weather.
On North Street, the location of the fraternity’s house, members treated one another to lunch prepared on the grill, participated in lawn games, and took turns, gathering in lawn chairs around a small pool just big enough to allow approximately eight brothers to simultaneously cool their feet.
Mcilroy described the activity as “taking a swim.”
Mcilroy said the fraternity additionally was celebrating a visit from Alpha Sigma Phi brothers, which added to the festivities.
“It’s just a good time for the guys to hang out together; it’s near the end of the semester and everyone wants to have some fun before they leave for the summer,” he said.
The day’s festivities included grilling, a Slip ‘N Slide, and games like Cornhole and spike ball.
During the school year, he said, the fraternity pursues a community service goal of providing food to area food pantries. Typically, he said, the brothers make food donations to the Warhawk Food Pantry on campus, and community pantries in Milton and Whitewater. Last semester, the organization donated more than 2,000 pounds of food to the aforementioned pantries.
This semester, the group donated 1,800 pounds of food.
