Responding to heat advisory, Jefferson County Emergency Management Office provides list of cooling shelters 

The National Weather Service has issued an “Excessive Heat Warning,” for residents within the Fort Atkinson Online and WhitewaterWise readership area.

According to information released by the service, the warning comes with a severity level of “severe,” noting a “significant threat to life or property.”

The “weather event onset” is predicted at 1 p.m.

The service notes that the weather will bring “dangerously hot conditions with heat index values of up to 107 expected.”

The warning is in place for portions of south central and southeastern Wisconsin until 8 p.m.

The warning is followed by an “Excessive Heat Watch,” which will be in place between Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening.”

In Addition, the Jefferson County Emergency Management Office has released a list of cooling shelters within the county for those in need of relief from the heat.

Editor’s note: While not on the Jefferson County list submitted to WhitewaterWise and Fort Atkinson Online, Irvin L. Young Memorial Library Director Diane Jaroch noted by phone that the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library is a cooling station made available to members of the public during the library’s regular hours of operation. The library, 431 W. Center St., Whitewater, is open Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The library is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
