The following public service announcements (PSAs) have recently been released by Whitewater city officials:
Fremont closed to through traffic for repair
City officials have announced that a “Fremont Street contractor is scheduled to pulverize the existing asphalt pavement between Whitewater Creek and Lauderdale Drive.”
Work is underway and is anticipated to continue for the next two weeks.
According to information released by officials, “travel on the pulverized material can be difficult until it is shaped, rolled, and compacted.
The first layer of asphalt is scheduled for Saturday, and will be placed between Starin Road and Whitewater Creek.
City officials ask motorist to avoid the section of Fremont Street for the next two weeks as crews continue to work on gravel shoulders, restoration, and placing the final lift of asphalt.
Fremont Street between Starin Road and Whitewater Creek is closed to thru traffic, the release stated.
Discharge firearms for purpose of waterfowl hunting application available
An application is available on the Whitewater Parks and Recreation Department website for those interested in discharging firearms within the city limits for the purpose of waterfowl hunting.
According to information released by city officials, the permit to discharge a firearm within city limits for the purpose of waterfowl hunting is not an application to hunt; all applicants must comply with all applicable laws and regulations set forth by the city of Whitewater and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Additionally, officials note, background check are required for all applicants.
Applications may be downloaded from the following website: www.wwparks.org or picked up on the second floor of the Whitewater Municipal Building, 312 W. Whitewater St., Whitewater.

Community calendar available on city’s website
Whitewater city officials have announce that a new page on the city’s website is dedicated to community-hosted events, which are presented in the form of a community calendar.
“This centralized platform is designed to keep residents and visitors alike informed about activities, celebrations, and gatherings happening throughout our city,” the release read.
local organizations, clubs, and community groups are invited to share events on the calendar.

John’s Disposal announces Labor Day schedule
Whitewater city officials have released information regarding John’s Disposal Holiday Schedule.
According to the release, John’s Disposal will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of Labor Day.
The schedule offers the following changes:
• Thursday’s route is delayed to Friday.
