Following an interview process that included eight questions directed to each of seven applicants — five for a vacant at-large seat and two for a vacant Aldermanic District 1 seat on the Whitewater Common Council — two former council members, Carol McCormick and Patrick Singer, were appointed Tuesday to fill the two seats.
Five council members, including Council President Neil Hicks, along with Brienne Brown, Jill Gerber, Lukas Schreiber and Lisa Dawsey-Smith, each cast ballots for each seat, with the city’s Chief of Staff Taylor Zeinert announcing at the conclusion of each vote the applicant garnering the most votes in each circumstance. Actual tallies were not shared.
According to the city’s policy, as outlined during the meeting, each of the five seated council members were allowed to cast one vote for each seat.
Vying, along with McCormick, for the at-large seat were Joseph Kromholz, Greg Majkrzak, Michael Smith and Keith Staebler. Competing against Singer for the District 1 seat was Curtis Knull.
During the selection process, each applicant was asked the same eight questions in the same order, and was given 90 seconds to respond.
Candidates had earlier drawn numbers signifying in which order they would be interviewed by the seated council members.
A story with responses given by applicants to each of the eight questions will soon be published on WhitewaterWise.
