Update, cancelation: League of Women voters representatives announced Sunday, Sept. 15, that the “Courageous Conversation: Project 25” event has been canceled “due to unexpected circumstances.”
The Whitewater Area League of Women Voters has announced that it will be hosting a public discussion focusing on “Project 25,” described by the foundation that developed it as a “menu of solutions to the border crisis, inflation, a stagnant economy and rampant crime.”
The information is found on the Heritage Foundation’s website, further calling Project 25 a “presidential transition project.”
The Heritage Foundation, the website states, is a “research and educational institution whose mission is to build and promote conservative public policies.”
The conservative think tank is based in Washington D.C.
The league-sponsored conversation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 18, between 6:30 and 8 p.m., at the Cravath Lakefront Community Center, found in Cravath Lakefront Park, 341 S. Fremont St., Whitewater.
According to the release, “Project 2025 is a series of goals and objectives shaped by the Heritage Foundation as a strategy document for the Office of the President.”
Additionally, the release read: “An objective of the league is to engage in dialogue, deliberations, and discernment about issues that are critically important to the community.
“The premise of a courageous conversation is to speak your truth, experience discomfort, accept and expect non-closure, but stay engaged.”
Additionally, the release read: “The topic of Project 2025 is one that the community should discuss openly to understand its intent and proposed actions. During a presidential election year, we must stay vigilantly informed and have opportunities to deliberate through a lens of open-mindedness and freedom of expression.”
During the conversation, participants will “receive an overview,” of the project, and be given an opportunity to “ask questions about its intent, and to dialogue with other community members in a round table arrangement to seek understanding and to be understood,” the release stated.
Eric Loepp, associate professor in the Department of Politics, Government, and Law and Director of Learning Technology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, will facilitate the “discernment process,” the release noted.
The event is free to attend and open to the public.
