Incumbents, Kachel, Zimmerman, and newcomer Tortomasi to run for two school board seats in April

By Kim McDarison

Two incumbents, including Whitewater Unified School District Board of Education President Larry Kachel and Maryann Zimmerman, both holding at-large seats, have filed paperwork to be included on the April general election ballot.

Additionally, a newcomer, Jeff Tortomasi, also has filed paperwork to run for one of the two seats that will be due for reelection this spring.

According to information released on the school district’s website, with three candidates running for the two seats, a spring primary election will not be required.

In April, the two highest vote earners on the election ballot will fill the seats. The newly elected candidates will take the oath of office on April 22.

Whitewater Unified School District Board of Education members each serve at-large, three-year terms.

The full seven-member body, along with Kachel and Zimmerman, includes Jennifer Kienbaum, Lisa Huempfner, Christy Linse, Miguel Aranda and Stephanie Hicks.
