Phase I of a two-phase reconstruction project on Whitewater’s Fremont Street is set to begin Monday, April 22, according to information released by members of the city’s staff.
To facilitate Phase I work, Fremont Street, between Starin Road and Lauderdale Drive, will be closed to through traffic. The intersection of Starin Road and Fremont Street will remain open, according to the release.
The intersection of Lauderdale Drive and Fremont Street will be closed to traffic, the release stated.
Phase I
Work conducted as part of the project’s Phase 1 will include replacement of sanitary sewer mains and laterals, replacement of water mains and laterals, storm sewer improvements, replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter, and new asphalt pavement.
The project also includes work to abandon, in place, sanitary sewer and water mains that run under Treyton’s Field of Dreams, a baseball field in the city’s Starin Park, the release noted.
Phase II
Additionally, the release stated, the project’s Phase II is anticipated to begin later this summer.
To facilitate Phase II work, Fremont Street will be closed to through traffic from Starin Road to Whitewater Creek.
Phase II work includes the pulverizing of existing asphalt, new asphalt pavement, and ditch work between Lauderdale Drive and Whitewater Creek.
While Phase II work is underway, the intersections of Schwager Drive and Fremont Street, and Burr Oak Drive and Fremont Street will be closed to traffic.
Additionally, there will be periodic closures of the Starin Road and Fremont intersection to facilitate curb and gutter replacement and repaving of the intersection, the release read.
Fremont Street from Starin Road to Whitewater Creek is tentatively scheduled to be open to traffic by the first day of September, the release stated.
