First United Methodist Church to hold ‘kickoff’ event in celebration of fall programming

Representatives of the First United Methodist Church in Whitewater have announced “Kickoff Sunday,” an event hosted in celebration of the church’s fall programming.

The event will be held Sept. 8, at the church, 145 S. Prairie St., Whitewater.

The event will begin at 10 a.m., with a worship led by the church’s new pastor, Clarissa Martinelli, the release noted.

As stated in the release, the event will feature “Promise Point volunteer recognition,” along with music provided by the chancel choir.

Additionally, the release read: “Anyone is encouraged to bring their backpack, briefcase or laptop case — whether for school or work — we will be blessing those items at this service.”

Following the service, according to the release, event-goers will find a cookout, games and activities for children and adults, such as a bounce house, chalk art, coloring, face painting, cornhole games and limbo, among others.

The cookout will include brats and hot dogs, along with side dishes.

“You may bring a dessert or side dish, or just come and enjoy,” the release stated.

Some 70 concert-goers fill the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church, Whitewater, during a Whitewater Arts Alliance-sponsored Savory Sounds concert held last summer. The event was moved indoors due to excessive heat. The church this year is organizing a “Kickoff Sunday,” in celebration of its fall programming. The event, slated for Sept. 8, features worship, a cookout and family friendly games and activities. File photo/Kim McDarison.
