DOT: Second phase of highways 11 and 12 resurfacing project set to begin in early June

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) has announced that the second phase of a two-phased highway resurfacing project in Walworth County, announced earlier this month, is set to begin the week of June 3.

The project includes resurfacing and bridge reconstruction work along U.S. Highway 12.

Work early next month will focus on a stretch of the highway between State Highway 20 and the State Highway 67/U.S. Highway 12 split.

The full scope of Phase 2 work includes:

• Resurfacing U.S. 12 between State Highway 20 and the State Highway 67/U.S. 12 split.

• Reconstruction of the U.S. 12 bridge over Sugar Creek.

• Reconstruction of the westbound U.S. 12 to northbound WIS 67 ramp terminal.

• Installation of new traffic signals at the County Truck  ES and U.S. 12 intersection.

• Installation of guardrail safety enhancements.

During the second phase of construction, U.S. 12 will be closed to through traffic between Highway 20 and the 67/U.S. 12 split for the duration of the project, and “fully closed between county trunks A and ES” while work to the bridge is performed.

Residents and local businesses will have access along U.S. 12 and County Trunk ES, the release stated.

Motorists driving though the area will find a posted detour directing them to use I-43 and Highway 20.

The project is anticipated, weather allowing, to complete this fall.

According to the release, work on the Highway 11 portion of the project is anticipated to complete late this summer.

Further information about the project can be found on the DOT’s website: https://projects.511wi.gov/12elkhorn/.
