The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced recently that the second of a three-stage project to rehabilitate Highway 20, between Waterford and East Troy, is set to begin Monday.

A first stage of the project was completed in 2023.

Stage 2 work planned to commence on Monday, with an anticipated completion date in “late June,” includes the reconstruction of Highway 20’s eastbound lanes from, as described within information released by the department, “stage 1 limits to County L.”

Information found on the DOT’s website notes that stage 2 work will include:

• Reconstruction of WIS 20 eastbound lanes from Stage 1 to County L. Highway 20 will remain open and traffic will use the existing WIS 20 lanes.

• Mill and overlay pavement on WIS 38 near its intersection with WIS 20. The road will remain open.

• Rebuild the south leg of the WIS 20/County ES intersection, with a 21-day closure anticipated.

• I-43 southbound entrance and I-43 northbound exit ramps will be closed and WIS 20 access  will be detoured.

Information made available by the department further outlines steps anticipated to commence as part of stage 3 of the project, which will begin in “late June” and continue through “late fall.” A completion date is anticipated in 2025.

Additionally, a full road closure in anticipated near the Racine/Walworth county line while a retaining wall in constructed and the roadway’s shoulder widened.

• I-43 southbound exit and I-43 northbound entrance ramps will be closed and access to WIS 20 will be detoured.
