Discover Whitewater Series (DWS), organizer of a Half Marathon, Half Marathon Team Event, 5k, and W3 Fit Kid Shuffle, has announced that Performance Running Outfitters is the 2023 Half Marathon teams award sponsor.

According to information found on the event’s registration page, the event will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, between 8 a.m. and noon.

According to information released by the program’s organizer, the Half Marathon Team Event is being offered this year and for the first time in the program’s 11-year history.

Teams will consist of four participants — all women, all men, or co-ed, with those teams consisting of two women and two men — all of whom will be competing for the best combined half marathon finishing time, released information stated.

Each of the teams achieving top-three placement will receive a trophy designed by Amaya Phillippi and a gift certificate from Performance Running Outfitters. Performance Running Outfitters has been a sponsor of the race-related activities in past years, the release noted.

“The Team Event for the Half Marathon brings a new competitive element to the race this year,” DWS Executive Director Jeffery Knight was quoted as saying in the release.

In addition, DWS has announced that registration has opened for both the Fit Kid Shuffle and “Kids Korral” activities.

According to the organization’s online registration porthole, those interested in registering for the Fit Kid Shuffle must do so by Saturday, Sept. 16, until the close of the event at 11 a.m.

The activity will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, between 10 and 11 a.m.

Those interested in registering for the Kids Korral must do so by Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 11:59 p.m.

The activity will be held Sunday, Sept. 17, between 7 a.m. and noon.

According to information released by event organizers, DWS works in partnership with Working for Whitewater’s Wellness (W3) to host the Fit Kid Shuffle, a free race for kids, ages 10 and under.

The one-mile course includes obstacles and pathways.

Fit Kid Shuffle participants are provided with a t-shirt, snacks, and receive a medal after the race, the release stated.

The Kids Korral is available to parents, guardians or caregivers of children, ages 1-10, who are participating in the race. The program offers a free childcare opportunity while adults are running.

As noted in the release, Kids Korral is made possible through a partnership between DWS and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater College of Educational and Professional Studies. The activity is run, with safety and benefits to participants as primary goals, by members of the university student organization Creative and Resourceful Educators (CARE).

Children participating in the program will be given the opportunity to play games, and complete arts and crafts, among other activities.

The Kids Korral will offer child supervision until noon, the release noted.
