Discover Whitewater Series organizers note that the two-day event will begin Saturday as volunteers beginning setting up a course and providing race packets for participants to pick up, between 9 a.m. and noon, at the Whitewater High School, 534 S. Elizabeth St., Whitewater.

Saturday’s activities include the W3 Fit Kid Shuffle, which begins at 10 a.m., at the high school. Children under the age of 10 can participate in a free mile-long run, information provided by program organizers states.  

Race participants may also pick up their packets Sunday, between 6 and 7:30 a.m.

Activities kick off Sunday with an address, which will be delivered at the Whitewater High School, at 7:45 a.m., by University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor Corey King.

Half marathon runners will begin their course at 8 a.m., followed by 5K runners, at 8:15 a.m.

Residents are reminded that some streets, and traffic, may be affected as runners move through the community.

According to the release, series organizers encourage community participation in the event. Community members can show their support for the runners by lining up along the course and cheering as they make their way through the city.

Following the race, an awards ceremony will begin once the top three runners have been certified by Runner’s Edge, the release stated.  

The release notes that registration is still open for those who might like to participate and the series is still in need of volunteers.

Additionally, the release noted that Discover Whitewater Series organizers will be following a flag warning system to notify runners of weather conditions. Flags are as follow: green for good conditions, yellow for less than ideal conditions, red for potentially dangerous conditions, and black for a canceled event. 

Parking will be available at Whitewater High School and Whitewater Middle School, 401 S. Elizabeth St., Whitewater, the release read.
