Breaking: Area departments battle structure fire near Whitewater

Update: Responding to WhitewaterWise by email, Whitewater Chief of Staff Taylor Zeinert noted at approximately 1 p.m. that Whitewater Fire and EMS command staff personnel had “not returned to the municipal building yet,” but, she said, an update would be forthcoming as soon as information was available.

A fire has been reported this morning by the Jefferson County Scanner Facebook page regarding a structure at 9707 N. McCord Rd., near the city of Whitewater.

The property is located in Rock County, between Whitewater and  Lima Center.

According to information found on the Facebook scanner page, the fire is “residential,” and was reported with “smoke and flames showing.”

The fire was described as “5th alarm for tenders only.”

Several area departments, according to the page, have responded to the fire, bringing firefighting assets from Milton, Delavan, Footville, LaGrange, Clinton, Janesville, Palmyra, Hellenville, Lake Mills, Waterloo, Sun Prairie, Fort Atkinson, Fontana, and Milton, among others.

The fire was shown by video on the scanner as active around 11:30 a.m.
