Library Director Stacey Lunsford resigns

Stacey Lunsford, the director of the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, has submitted a letter of resignation, according to information delivered Tuesday to the Whitewater Common Council by City Manager John Weidl.

The information was shared by the city manager during the council’s regular meeting as part of the city manager’s report.

Lunsford, notifying the city manager of her decision to resign on Monday, Sept. 25, wrote: “Please accept my resignation effective today. I have accepted a position in Minnesota. My employment agreement stipulates that I give 60 days notice. My last official day will be Friday, November 24.”

Lunsford said that she would notify library staff members of her decision the following Tuesday, Sept. 26.

“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege serving as library director here,” she wrote.

According to information shared on the city’s website, Lunsford has served as director of the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library since 2001. In that capacity, she has been responsible for overall administration of the library, its budget planning, administration and supervision of employees, collection development, technology planning, and has acted as a liaison with community groups including the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the Whitewater Unified School District.

The display was used earlier this year to show members of the public that fundraising efforts to reach a library renovation project goal of $2.25 million were nearing completion. The full renovation project is anticipated to cost $6 million. The Whitewater City Council has committed $3 million to the project, with the contingency that the library meets its obligation by funding the remaining costs associated with the project. The project is anticipated to begin in 2024. File photo/contributed.
