Whitewater Manufacturing to sponsor Discover Whitewater Series events

Whitewater Manufacturing, a Whitewater-based custom machine shop specializing in assembly, engineering, finishing and supply chain management, according to its website, will once again serve as a title sponsor of the annual Discover Whitewater Series, event organizers stated in a recent news release.

Whitewater Manufacturing is a fourth-generation, family-owned company, the release noted.

The annual Discover Whitewater Series offers a full itinerary of activities, including a half marathon, half marathon team event, 5k, and “W3 Fit Kid Shuffle.”

The event is in its 11th year, according to the release.

Whitewater Manufacturing has been an ongoing sponsor of the event since its inception in 2013, the release noted.

“We love to help be a part of this event. It is so great to see the community come together through participants, volunteers, and sponsors. We are so excited to be a part of another year with the DWS,” Whitewater Manufacturing President and Greater Whitewater Committee Chairwoman Crystal Singer was quoted as saying in the release.   

According to event organizers, support from local businesses allows for the continued success of the series. 

Sponsorship from the organization contributes to the event’s ability to provide opportunities for area runners, including course safety, free childcare and a post-race celebration, the release stated.

Proceeds from the race will be distributed amongst several area charities, the release continued.   

This year, the event will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, and Sunday, Sept. 17.

Saturday, Sept. 16 

Saturday’s activities include a W3 Fit Kid Shuffle, from 10 to 11 a.m.

According to information provided online by event organizers, the W3 Fit Kid Shuffle opens a one-mile course to children ages 10 and under. The course includes obstacles and pathways.

Children are invited to participate in the activity free of charge.

Participants are provided with a t-shirt, snacks and those completing the race receive a medal, online information states.

The activity is is held at the Whitewater High School, 534 S. Elizabeth St., Whitewater.

Also on Saturday, Discover Whitewater Series race participants are invited to pick up their race day packets between 9 a.m. and noon at the Whitewater High School.

Packets include the race schedule, registration information, flyers, coupons, and “goodies,” according to online information.

Sunday, Sept. 17 

Sunday is race day, according to event organizers.

Events begin at 7 a.m., with “The Kids Korral,” a supervised area where adult race participants can drop off their kids, ages 1-10. Kids Korral remains open until noon. Participation is free of charge. The supervised space is made possible by volunteers from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Creative and Resourceful Educators (CARE) student organization. At the “korral,” kids will find games and arts and crafts, among other activities. The activity is held at the Whitewater High School.

Registration for Kids Korral remains open until Wednesday, Sept. 14, according to information released online.

Additional events offered Sunday include the half marathon, with a wheelchair division beginning at 7:55 a.m., followed by the full field of runners at 8 a.m. The course will remain open until noon. A course description is available online.

A 5k course opens to participants in the wheelchair division at 8:10 a.m., followed by the full field at 8:15 a.m. The course will remain open for two hours.

Information provided by the Discover Whitewater Series organizers further notes that the Whitewater Aquatic and Fitness Center will be open on race day between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Runners will receive a free one-day pass to make use of the facility. The center includes a lap and leisure pool, hot tub, weight rooms, cardio training, and a concession stand.

About the DWS

According to the release, the goal of the Discover Whitewater Series (DWS) is to promote the city of Whitewater and highlight its features, while keeping the community active. All proceeds from the race are donated to five area nonprofit partners. They are: Bethel House, which provides interim housing for homeless families; Whitewater LEADS, which works to improve and maintain Whitewater’s Wellness (W3); the Whitewater Unified School District, and the J-Hawk Aquatic Club. The DWS partners with the city of Whitewater, the area’s business community, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the Whitewater Unified School District to create its annual two-day event.
