PSAs: Roads to close for sewer, water main work

Whitewater city officials recently announced that Main and Tratt streets will each close or maintain a period of restricted traffic while city workers conduct sewer and water main work.

Near and on Tratt Street

According to information released, some work near Tratt Street began yesterday, as the contractor for the Vanderlip Pumping Station project began work on Carriage Drive, between Fraternity Lane and Tratt Street, to install sanitary force main. Carriage Drive will be closed to through traffic, but open to local residents, however, the intersection with Tratt Street will remain open the release notes.

Additionally, beginning Monday, June 10, Tratt Street, between Starin Road and Carriage Drive, will be closed to through traffic for water main, sanitary sewer, and force main work. Curb and gutter spot repairs, pedestrian ramp ADA improvements, and new asphalt also are part of the project.

The Starin Road and Tratt Street intersection will be closed to traffic. Traffic will be detoured using County Trunk Highway U to County Trunk Highway D, State Highway 59/Newcomb Street and Main/Milwaukee streets. Tratt Street is anticipated to reopen Aug. 9.

Main Street closure

Further, city officials report, on Monday, June 3, West Main Street, between First and Second streets, will be under construction to replace a sanitary sewer and water lateral.

Officials anticipate that two lanes of traffic will be maintained during construction by shifting lanes to the north or south. No parking will be allowed in this section of West Main Street in order to accommodate the construction.

Repairs to the concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk, and asphalt pavement are anticipated to be completed by Friday, June 7.
