Contestants sought for Miss Whitewater Fourth of July Pageant

Organizers of the Miss Whitewater Fourth of July Pageant have announced that they are seeking contestants for this year’s annual competition.

Those interested in participating in the pageant are encouraged to sign up with the group, begin fundraising, and plan to attend practices each Wednesday through July 1.

The pageant is scheduled to take place Wednesday, July 3, at 5:30 p.m. The event kicks off the annual Whitewater Fourth of July multi-day festival, organizers noted within a recent news release.

After the pageant, participants are invited to appear in the Whitewater Fourth of July parade, traditionally scheduled to take place on the day following the pageant.

According to its organizers, the pageant is a philanthropic event, during which “individuals of all ages” are asked to join in “raising funds for our veterans.”

“Our veterans are the backbone of our nation, selflessly serving on the front lines to defend our values and way of life, yet, many return home facing significant challenges, from physical injuries to mental health struggles,” the release read, adding that by participating in the pageant, youngsters can contribute to “vital programs and services” that support veterans as they transition back to civilian life.

In past years, the release stated, the organization has raised more than $75,000, which has benefited various veterans’ organizations.

“This significant contribution has supported essential programs and services that directly impact the lives of our veterans, from healthcare to housing assistance,” the release read.

Getting involved

According to the release, the pageant offers involvement to individuals of all ages.

Once the individual signs up with the program, they are encouraged to begin fundraising efforts, seeking support through such mechanisms as individual donations and sponsorships, or through community events. Spreading the word about the pageant and its goals also is helpful to “maximize our impact,” the release noted.

During scheduled pageant practices, participants will learn to compete in four categories: philanthropy, casual wear, formal wear, and interview, the release continued.

Contestants compete within age categories, including: “Mini Miss,” for children ages 3-5; “Little Miss,” for children ages 6-10; “Junior Miss,” for children ages 11-15; “Teen Miss,” for children and young adults ages 16-19, and “Miss,” for adults ages 20 and older.

Additionally, the release announced, this year’s pageant theme is “Disney Magic,” and was chosen to bring to contestants an opportunity to immerse themselves in their favorite Disney characters.

This year’s Miss Whitewater Pageant is themed around the universe of Disney — from timeless classics to modern favorites — contestants are encouraged to let their imaginations soar and bring the magic of Disney to life on stage, the release read.

Further, pageant organizers noted, that while the crown may be a coveted prize, the “true reward” is found in knowing that participants have made a tangible difference in the lives of America’s veterans.

“By standing alongside us in this noble cause, regardless of age, you’ll be part of a legacy of gratitude and support for those who have served our country with honor and courage,” the release continued.
