Some 1,437 graduates will be presented Saturday to receive their degrees during the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s May Commencement, according to information released by the institution.
Two ceremonies, the first of which began today at 10 a.m., and a second which will begin at 3 p.m., are each anticipated to last two hours.
The ceremonies will be held in the Williams Center on the UW-Whitewater campus.
Information provided within a printed commencement program notes that the university began as a “normal school,” which was a training institution for teachers, and was dubbed the Wisconsin State Teachers College-Whitewater in 1927. It was renamed the Wisconsin State College-Whitewater in 1951, and the Wisconsin State University-Whitewater in 1964, and was included among 13 four-year institutions, under the umbrella of the University of Wisconsin System in 1971. Today the system is known as the Universities of Wisconsin.
Today, the program read, UW-Whitewater serves approximately 11,522 full- and part-time students, offering them an ability to enroll in one of 61 undergraduate-degreed programs, 21 master’s degreed programs, a doctoral degreed program and a program which leads to a education specialist degree.
The university offers such programming through its colleges of Arts and Communication, Business and Economics, Education and Professional Studies, Integrated Studies, and Letters and Sciences.
Each year, the university awards more than 2,650 degrees, the program stated.
