Rock County Sheriff’s Office warns public about recent fraudulent calls

A media release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office seeks to warn members of the public about recent fraudulent phone calls made to Rock County residents.

According to the release, the office has become aware of recent calls in which the caller claims to be “Rock County Patrol Deputy Young.”

The caller then asks the call recipient for money, indicating that the fee will “clear up” a legal matter, the release reports.

“At this time, we are not aware of any monetary loss to the public,” the release, authorized by Rock County Sheriff Curtis N. Fell, states.

The public is advised, according to the release, “that the Sheriff’s Office nor our representatives will call citizens asking for money. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to let their family and friends know about these scams.”

Members of the public who receive “calls of this nature,” the release reads, are “urged to report it to the Rock County Communications Center: 608-757-2244.

“People should always use caution and are reminded not to give personal information or pay monies via phone unless they can verify the source of origin,” the release read.
