Whitewater outdoor City Market returns

The Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Whitewater, Inc., have announced that the Whitewater City Market will return to its outdoor warm-weather location Tuesday, May 7, between 4 and 7 p.m.

The Market is embarking upon its ninth season, market volunteer Lisa Dawsey Smith noted in a recent news release.

Patrons can expect to find local foods and other products offered for sale in the heart of the city’s downtown, along with live music.

This year’s season opener is Wendy O’Lynn, who, according to her Facebook page, is a Madison-based fiddler.

She writes: “I play fiddle tunes, plain and simple,” adding that she plays pieces that are traditional and modern, as well as classics and originals.

Live music is sponsored this season by Generac Power Systems and TDS Telecom, Dawsey Smith noted in the release, adding that the sponsors are “both deeply committed to supporting local initiatives that foster community engagement and enrichment. Their generous sponsorship highlights their dedication to enhancing the quality of life in Whitewater and beyond.”

She added that Gererac is a returning market sponsor and TDS is new.

Along with music, she noted, market-goers this season will find children’s activities, giveaways, local foods, local crafts, information from area nonprofits, and food trucks/prepared food vendors.

A list of products offered at the market includes fresh local produce, plants, flowers, and artisanal goods, Dawsey Smith stated.

The City Market’s outdoor season runs through October and is held each Tuesday near the city’s Historical Train Depot, 301 W. Whitewater St., which is located across the street from the Whitewater Municipal Building.
