“Discover Wisconsin” travel and tourism TV series, in partnership with the Wisconsin Counties Association, is once again hosting its annual photo contest.

According to information released Wednesday, the contest, which was launched through social media, has become a popular event, attracting more than 1,000 entrants who submit photographs of destinations from across the state.

The release defines Discover Wisconsin as “the nation’s longest running travel and tourism TV series.”

Each year, 12 fan-submitted photos are published in the Discover Wisconsin annual calendar, which features images of Wisconsin destinations, the release stated.

“The annual calendar contest is consistently a source of excitement for our entire team at Discover Wisconsin. It offers an unparalleled opportunity to showcase Wisconsin’s beauty through the lens of local photographers, spanning various counties across the state. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the stunning submissions and the unique perspectives they bring to light this year,” Kortnee McElhenie, brand manager of Discover Wisconsin, was quoted as saying in the release.

The top 12 photos are selected by members of the Discover Wisconsin crew from area submissions following a “voting period,” the release stated, adding that the crew will also select one of the top 12 photos to appear on the calendar’s cover.

The 2025 Discover Wisconsin calendars will be available for purchase in the fall of 2024, the release read. Those interested in purchasing a calendar are encouraged to visit this link: shop.discoverwisconsin.com.

Entries will be accepted until Friday, May 31, the release noted.

Michael Leis, who grew up in Wisconsin’s Driftless Region near Cashton, took the photo which graces the 2024 calendar’s cover.

According to the release, “his photo captured a beautiful fall day at the Dell Mill in Eau Claire County.”

The release stipulates that contest applicants must submit an original digital photo, at least 300dpi and no smaller than 5- by 7-inches, made in jpeg file format. The photo should feature a Wisconsin destination. Applicants must include their name, social handle, address, email address, photo location, and a photo caption with their contest submission.
