Wisconsin Makers, a Whitewater-based nonprofit community workshop, has announced it will be hosting its  seventh annual iron pour on Saturday, April 6.

The event, which will be held at the Wisconsin Makers makerspace building, 200 E. Clay St., Whitewater, is free to attend and open to the public.

Spectators are invited to watch the “pour team,” composed of Teresa “Tree” Lind, a former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater lecturer of art and design, program alumni, and other area artists melt iron in an outdoor furnace and then fill sand scratch molds with the liquid metal.

According to the release, iron will be poured when the outdoor furnace reaches its ideal temperature for melting iron, which is anticipated to be achieved around noon, with castings completed by mid-afternoon.

Those interested in making a casting from a scratch block will be charged $25 each, with participation on a first come, first-served basis while blocks last, the release read.

Blocks will be made available for purchase at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and must be completed by the purchaser with a design by 11:15 a.m.

A scratch block workshop also will be held Friday, April 5, at the makerspace building between 5 and 9 p.m.

Those purchasing blocks in advance of the pour can work on a design at home and bring the block to Saturday’s event by 11:15 a.m.

During Saturday’s iron pour, some refreshments will be available for purchase, including brats, chips, water and soda.

During the workshop, participants will find slices of pizza offered for sale.
