Cold Spring outbuilding, contents considered ‘total loss’ following structure fire on Friday

A building described as a “legacy” barn is considered a “total loss,” after fire broke out on Friday, according to information released Sunday by the Whitewater Fire Department.

According to Sunday’s release, at approximately 9:33 p.m., on Friday, Whitewater Fire and EMS was dispatched to a structure fire at a private residence, W4484 Findlay Rd., town of Cold Spring,  which, the release noted, is approximately five or six miles from the Whitewater Fire Station.

First units were on the scene at approximately nine minutes after receiving the call, the release noted, with firefighters finding a large outbuilding, further described as approximately 35- by 100-feet, which was involved with “heavy smoke and fire.”

The building had been converted by the property owner into a personal automotive hobby shop, the release read.

The property is in a rural non-hydrant area, the release noted.

The building was reported to have contained “several automobiles and automotive parts and tools.”

According to the release, the building and its contents were a total loss.

The release additionally described “no damage to adjacent structures or property.”

Firefighters used some 50,000 gallons of water to extinguish the building.

No injuries were reported from or during the incident.

The cause of the fire is reported as “undetermined,” and “not suspicious in nature.”

Along with Whitewater Fire and EMS, agencies responding to the fire included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and “multiple MABAS fire department partners,” including: Cambridge, city of Delavan, town of Delavan, Clinton, Darien, East Troy, Fontana, Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Johnson Creek, Lakeside, Lauderdale-LaGrange, Rome, Stoughton, Sullivan, Troy Center and Western Lakes, according to the release.
