Suspect, 19, arrested in connection with BP gas station robbery

Members of the Whitewater Police Department have arrested a 19-year-old suspect in connection with a robbery which occurred Tuesday at a gas station, according to information released by the department Wednesday.

The suspect was not named within the release.

Department officials noted that the department received a call Tuesday at 9:06 p.m. reporting that an armed robbery was taking place at a BP Gas Station, located at 1138 W. Main St.

According to the release, the male suspect entered the gas station and displayed a replica of a firearm. He demanded a pack of cigars, then left the gas station and fled in a vehicle.

Officers located the suspect at Knilans Hall on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus, and he was taken into custody without incident at 10:13 p.m., the release reported.

Following his arrest, the suspect was confined in the Walworth County Jail.

Charges of armed robbery and disorderly conduct, among other related charges, the release noted, have been forwarded to the Walworth County District Attorney’s Office.

Within the release, the Whitewater Police Department offered thanks to the UW-Whitewater Police Department and the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office for assisting during the incident.

Law enforcement agencies remind the public that a defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted of charges.
