City staff: Recent council vacancies leave open seats on boards, committees

Following a recent letter of resignation filed by Whitewater Common Councilman David Stone, and the death of Council President Jim Allen, members of the city’s staff noted Tuesday that several boards, commissions and committees also are left with vacancies.

In a memo to council released Tuesday by City Manager John Weidl and Chief of Staff Taylor Zeinert, staff members noted vacancies on the following bodies:

• Alcohol Licensing committee

• Community Development Authority

• Finance committee

• Parks and Recreation Board

• Public Works committee

• Urban Forestry

Additionally, the staff members wrote: “Since these are all positions that need to be filled by a common council representative, staff suggest that we mirror the same process that is conducted after the spring (April) election.”

The memo next outlines a process by which the city clerk sends a spreadsheet to the various bodies with vacancies. Council members are then each given an opportunity to fill out the spreadsheet, ranking their interests in serving as a representative on each body.

A copy of the most recent spreadsheet follows.
