UW-Whitewater December 2023 graduates receive degrees

Some 853 graduates were presented Saturday to receive their degrees during the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s December Commencement, according to the printed program.

According to information released by the university, the ceremony, which began at 10 a.m., was anticipated to last for two hours.

The commencement was held in the Williams Center on the UW-Whitewater campus.

Information provided within the printed commencement program noted that the university began as a “normal school,” which was a training institution for teachers, and was dubbed the Wisconsin State College-Whitewater in 1927. It was renamed the Wisconsin State University-Whitewater in 1964, and was included among 13 four-year institutions, under the umbrella of the University of Wisconsin System in 1971. Today the system is known as the Universities of Wisconsin.

Today, the program read, UW-Whitewater serves approximately 11,087 full- and part-time students, offering them an ability to enroll in one of 60 undergraduate-degreed programs, 22 master’s degreed programs, a doctoral degreed program and a program which leads to a education specialist degree.

The university offers such programming through its colleges of Arts and Communication, Business and Economics, Education and Professional Studies, Integrated Studies, and Letters and Sciences.

Each year, the university awards more than 2,800 degrees, the program stated.
