Holiday PSAs: John’s Disposal to close; Christmas tree collection scheduled 

Update: Whitewater city officials have announced that due to the snow on Monday, Jan. 8, and Tuesday, Jan. 9, Christmas trees will be picked up through Tuesday, Jan. 16, without an appointment.  After Jan. 16, residents are asked to call: 262-473-0560 to schedule a Christmas tree pickup.

Whitewater city officials have announced that John’s Disposal will be closed over the upcoming holiday and collection of discarded Christmas trees will be held after the start of the new year.

As noted in a recent news release, John’s Disposal will close on Monday, Dec. 25, in observance of Christmas and Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Trash pickup routes will be delayed resulting from the holiday closures, and will take place as follows:

• Those who normally have their trash picked up on Thursday, Dec. 28, will instead receive pickup services on Friday, Dec. 29.

• Those who normally have their trash picked up on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, will receive services on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.

Christmas tree collection

City officials have additionally released information regarding the collection of discarded Christmas trees, which will be collected by the city’s Department of Public Works on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, and Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024.

According to the release, residents who would like to have a tree picked up before or after the scheduled dates must call the public works department before 5 a.m. on the Tuesday of the week in which they are seeking pickup to schedule a “brush pickup.”

Further, the release noted, trees that have been flocked or contain wire will not be collected.

Trees with flocking and wiring will be collected by John’s Disposal on the second Thursday of the month, which is the regularly scheduled bulk pickup day, the release stated.
