Held by co-sponsors Downtown Whitewater, Inc., and the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce, interim chamber director Katy Wimer on Monday described this year’s “Ghoul’s Night Out” event as a success, attracting some 200 participants even as some community members expressed, via social media, some trepidation brought by rain.
Some of the event’s activities, which were originally scheduled to be held outdoors, were moved inside, she said, which allowed participants to continue with their spooky fun inside the downtown office of the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce.
Providing additional information in a news release, Wimer wrote that the event, held Thursday evening, attracted both kids and adults in costume who were offered fun activities and an opportunity to trick-or-treat by 35 of Whitewater’s downtown businesses.
Among activities, she wrote, some businesses organized a coloring contest, while others offered games and handed out candy.
Additionally, the release noted, Generac provided 100 goodie bags which were distributed to children throughout the evening.
Further, Wimer noted, several community organizations participated, including: Ferradermis Robotics, a club organized through the Whitewater High School; the city of Whitewater Parks and Recreation Department; Productive Living Systems; the Ice Age Trail Walworth and Jefferson County Chapter, which is a group of volunteers who help maintain the Ice Age Trail, and the Whitewater Grocery Co., a nonprofit group working to organize a cooperative grocery store in Whitewater.
“These organizations set up shop inside the (chamber) office, where they continued to participate enthusiastically,” Wimer wrote.
Participants visiting with members of the Ferradermis Robotics club were treated to a ring toss game with prizes, and members of the Ice Age Trail group were accompanied by their mascot “Monty the Mammoth.”
“One of the highlights of the evening was the costume contest, and the ‘Invisible Man,’” a costume worn by Anderson Dunford, “stole the show, winning the title of the favorite costume of the night,” Wimer stated within the release.
