PSAs: Winter parking hours begin Nov. 1; city compost site to close Nov. 15

Whitewater city officials have released announcements regarding seasonal parking on city streets and the closure of the city’s compost site.

Winter parking

Winter parking hours within the city will become effective Wednesday, Nov. 1, according to a recent announcement.

Vehicle owners and operators are reminded that it is unlawful to park on any street within the city between 2 and 6 a.m., once winter parking hours are in effect.

Winter parking hours will remain in effect until Sunday, March 31, 2024.

The city, within its release, notes some exceptions to the rule, which are as follow:

• Physicians and surgeons shall be permitted to park vehicles at any time when the physician is on emergency call.

• Parking shall be permitted in the downtown parking area after 5 a.m.

• By special advance arrangement with the public works director.

Any person who violates the provisions of this ordinance shall be subject to the penalties and provisions set forth in Sections 11.56.010(4) and 11.56.010(5) of the Municipal Code, the release stated.

Compost site closure

The city also has released a reminder to residents that its compost site will close for the season on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m.

Residents who would like to request brush collection are asked to call: 262-473-0560 to schedule an appointment. Collections are made on Tuesdays. Appointments must be made by 5 a.m. on the day of collection to allow for route scheduling, the release stated. Collection of brush is available year-round, the release noted.

In addition, the release reminds residents that, as stipulated by ordinance, depositing yard waste on city streets and in right-of-ways, other than on days designated by the city, is prohibited.

For more information or to ask questions, contact the city’s streets department by phone: 262-473-0560, or visit: https://www.whitewater-wi.gov/RequestTracker.aspx.
