Breaking: Jefferson, Walworth county scanners report Whitewater industrial park fire

By Kim McDarison

The Jefferson County Scanner Facebook page for the second time Thursday has reported a structure fire in the Whitewater area.

The Walworth County Plus Wherever Scanner Updates Facebook page also is reporting a fire in Whitewater.

Both scanners have identified the location of the fire as 840 Executive Dr., which is in the Whitewater Business and Technology Park on the city’s east side.

According to the Jefferson County Scanner, the fire was reported at approximately 7:40 p.m., and was described as a “confirmed working fire.”

Initial reports noted that “a lot of smoke (was) coming from the top of the building.” The scanner additionally noted “no flames seen.”

Assets from several area communities have been requested including LaGrange, Fort Atkinson, Palmyra, Elkhorn, Jefferson and Darien.

The Jefferson County Scanner updated its information at approximately 8 p.m., at which time it reported that smoke was showing, further calling the situation an “active fire.”

An internet search reveals that FabPro LLC, a company that specializes in precision sheet metal fabrication, operates from the 76,485-square-foot manufacturing building located on the site.

Area firefighters from 23 departments battled a fire earlier Thursday at a home in the town of Lima. The earlier structure fire occurred some five miles southwest of the city of Whitewater, according to Whitewater Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Dion. After the fire was extinguished, the building was deemed a total loss.
